With cosy places to eat, long sandy beaches for walks and lots of Christmas fun in the area. Sandbanks is the perfect place for a getaway at this time of year. Here is our pick of the best festivities on the coast..

Great food

Celebrate the festive season with family and friends over great wine and food in Rick Stein's restaurant here on Sandbanks. The restaurant is beautifully decorated in coastal, Christmas chic and the roaring fire is so welcoming when there is a nip in the air. The Christmas lunch menu is from £24.95  with choices of salmon gravlax, sardines, Cornish hake and of course, roasted turkey. Its available until Monday 31st December and with such a beautiful setting, it will be a treat to remember.

Lift your spirits with Christmas carols

Escape the shopping madness and enjoy a boat ride to Brownsea Island. The island is closed at this time of year for forestry clearing and of course to give the red squirrels a break from the cameras, but for the week leading up to Christmas, Brownsea opens up for a magical experience. One of their experienced volunteers will take you on a guided walk of the lagoon to see all the birdlife then lead you back to the beautiful candlelit church for carols, mulled wine, hot ribena for the kiddies and mince pies.
